What is Electrodesiccation and Curettage (ED&C)?

For particularly mild, well defined, and shallow skin cancers, Electrodesiccation and Curettage (“ED&C”), can be a good treatment option. ED&C’s are quick procedures most appropriate for superficial basal cell carcinoma (sBCC) and squamous cell carcinoma in situ (SCCIS), which are slow growing and thin.

How is the Electrodesiccation and Curettage (ED&C) performed?

Restrictions post procedure include no swimming, saunas, hot tubs, or submerging under water. These restrictions limit the chances of a secondary infection occurring post procedure.

A one-week post procedure wound check appointment is necessary.

A white circular scar will remain once the area has fully healed.

What are the benefits of ED&C?

ED&C is appropriate for only certain superficial cancers and specific body parts. This procedure does not require sutures.
